Description

The first Royal Chapel, built on this site in 1686, was wooden. She was the first Anglican church in Boston. The construction of the present Royal Chapel, which was designed by architect Peter Harrison, began in 1749 and lasted until 1754.nOn October 9, 1960, the Royal Chapel was granted the status of a national historical monument of the United States, and on May 2, 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places of the United States. Despite its name, the adjacent King’s Chapel Burying Ground is not affiliated with the chapel or any other church; it pre-dates the chapel by over a century.
