The road is featured in a significant number of movies, songs, and novels. The main portion of the road was originally called Mulholland Highway and was opened in 1924. Mulholland Drive is home to some of the most exclusive and most expensive homes in the world, with several Hollywood celebrities living nearby. Many of these homes are set back from the road and offer outstanding views of downtown Los Angeles.
