It was first established in 1879 by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. museum exhibits almost 1000 years of architectural history in its mouldings gallery, its wall paintings and its stained glass windows as well as the history of modern and contemporary architecture. Life-size reproductions of parts of monuments, original documents, models, videos as well as multimedia points bring to life this story of French architecture and its surroundings from the 12th century to the present day.
