Basilica of Santo Stefano Maggiore is a Catholic church in Milan, Italy. It was founded in the V century. In 1070 the building was destroyed by fire and built in the Romanesque style in 1075.nOn December 26, 1476, the Basilica became the site of the assassination of the Duke of Milan, Galeazzo Maria Sforza, who came to celebrate the day of the patron of the church. On September 30, 1571, future artist Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Caravaggio, was baptized in Santo Stefano.nIn the basilica were kept the bodies of Saints Martinianus, Ausanus and Mansuetus, the bishops of Milan, who in 1988 were transferred to the Milan Cathedral.
