Description

The Cathedral Square is the main square of Milan. The name received on its main attraction – the Milan Cathedral. Launched in 1386, the Milan Cathedral was completed only at the beginning of the 19th century, and Napoleon asserted the highest facade that overlooked the square (1805).nOpposite the palace is the Carminati Palace.nThe south side of the square is occupied by the Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale). The palace suffered from bombing during the Second World War, interiors were lost (all except the caryatids hall), the restoration was delayed until the 1960s.nIn 1865-1877, on the north side of the square, the building of one of the largest European passages, the Victor Emmanuel II Gallery, was erected.nIn 1896, a monument was erected on the square to the first king of the united Italy – Victor Emmanuel II.
