Description

The church of St. Mauritius, built in 1503-1517, was once part of the Benedictine monastery. Its interior is distinguished by a huge number of magnificent frescoes, created in the 16th century by artists of the Lombardy school of painting, for which the church is also called the “Sistine Chapel of Milan”. The author of the church of San Maurizio was the famous architect and sculptor of his time, Gian Giacomo Dolcebuono, in collaboration with the architect Giovanni Antonio Amadeo, who by the time of its construction had already had experience working on the Milan Duomo.
