Deutsches Schauspielhaus

The Deutsches Schauspielhaus is home to important European directors such as Katie Mitchell, Karin Henkel and Christoph Marthaler, Frank Castorf, Rimini Protokoll and Rene Pollesch. In addition to exploring the classical repertoire, the programme includes new theatre forms that combine music, dance, visual arts, science, documentation and fiction. The entrance to the Schauspielhaus is directly opposite the main railway station. The central bus station can be reached on foot in about three minutes. The classically designed building, built around 1900, is the main venue. The auditorium with its neo-baroque elements, figure decorations and red chairs is considered one of the most beautiful theatres in Germany. It was extensively renovated for the opening in 2013. The programme includes works by Maxim Gorki and Franz Grillparzer. The young Schauspielhaus is committed to more topical themes. The box office is open from one hour before the performance until the beginning of the performance.
