Description

Frankfurt Cathedral is Frankfurt am Main’s largest temple, where coronation ceremonies of Holy Roman Emperors were held earlier.nThroughout its history, Frankfurt Cathedral was the Kaiser Cathedral, and not the cathedral of the bishopric. Its great importance as a national symbol is based, rather, on a political and historical role in the Holy Roman Empire. In the XIX century, the cathedral became a symbol of the unity of the German nation. The most valuable relic stored in the Frankfurt Cathedral is considered the upper part of the skull of the Apostle Bartholomew, who since 1239 is considered the patron saint of the cathedral.
