It is one of the few institutions that preserve the history of the city. Soldiers from the Spanish American War worshipped here in 1898, and Veterans from the First World War prayed here after arriving from Europe in 1917. When all of Miami was a training camp during World War II in the 1940s, soldiers came to Gesù to receive the Sacraments.
