Selected concerts, readings, events, art exhibitions and even yoga courses take place in the atmospheric Knights’ Hall. The Alster Castle Henneberg, Hamburg’s only castle, is located in Hamburg Poppenbüttel directly in the beautiful Hennebergpark on the Alster. The castle is a relic from the period of 19th century castle romanticism and is entered in the list of monuments as “Burgruine Henneberg”. It consists of a main building with a 12 metre high tower, a small chapel on the banks of the Alster and a real knight’s hall. The unique charm of the castle, the intimate encounter with extraordinary artists as well as the magnificent acoustics make every concert a very special. After many years of non-use, the dilapidated castle was to be demolished. Fortunately, it was restored in 1990 by a private investor and has been a listed building since 1991. With the establishment of the non-profit Henneberg Castle Foundation, the castle has been open to the public since 2014 and offers a varied weekly cultural programme.
