Kyiv National Art Gallery was founded in 1922 on the basis of nationalized private collections, the basis was the collection of the Tereshchenko family. nThe museum has departments of Old Russian, XVIII — XIX centuries and Soviet art, in which painting, sculpture, graphics, and art crafts are represented. More than 30 halls are opened, the collection represents more than 12 thousand pieces of art.nAmong the most ancient works of art is the icon of the pre-Mongol period Boris and Gleb, a monument created in Novgorod at the end of the 12th – first half of the 13th century. The works of Russian art of the pre-Soviet era are represented by the paintings by Levitsky, Tropinin, Serov, Perov, Makovsky, Vasnetsov, Repin, Аntokolsky, Vereshchagin, Vrubel, Shishkin, Kuindzhi.nSoviet art is represented by the works of artists Johanson, Gerasimov, Ryauzov, Chuikov, Bayramov, sculptors Shadr, Koltsov.n
