Description

At the cemetery there are many skillfully made tombstones and sculptures made by famous artists of Kiev and Ukraine. More than two thousand graves and tombstones of the Lukyanovsky Reserve are included in the list of monuments of Kiev. 277 graves and gravestones of the cemetery have the status of monuments of history and art of Ukraine and are protected by the state. Due to the fact that the cemetery was central, it became the last resting place of many famous people – composers, writers, scholars, politicians and church leaders. The burials from the Askold grave, from the Pokrovsky monastery, were transferred to the Lukyanovsky cemetery. Here is the mass grave of Kiev residents who died in the battle of Kruty and the residents of Kiev who were tortured by the NKVD.n
