Description

Manchester Castle is a medieval fortress allegedly located between the Irwell and Irk rivers in the eponymous city of Manchester, United Kingdom.nThe first mention of the building dates back to 1184, and in one of the historical documents of 1215, the castle is listed behind the Greyley family, the barons of Manchester. Initially, the buildings were wooden, and only much later erected in stone. Around the castle there were three moats with water.nIn his book Warfare in England (1912), writer and historian Heeler Bellock called Manchester Castle one of the two most important defensive lines of medieval England along with the Thames river line.
