Description

Construction ended in 1879. Despite the change of several owners, the interior of the building was preserved in its original form (including a fireplace and even door handles). On the second floor of the mansion there was a room with a unique sliding ceiling, specially created by order of Symha Lieberman. This ceiling was discovered quite by accident when it collapsed during a meeting of the Writers’ Union years later. After the collapse, they figured out that the bamboo sheets were actually the roof. Every fall, the ceiling was dismantled, the bamboo was moved apart and the room turned into a sukkah. The whole family spent the whole week eating and sleeping under the open sky.
