Description

The monastery was built as a defense complex outside the city limits and a shelter for the sick, near the church of St. Mary Magdalene built earlier. The founder and builder of the church was the architect Ambrosii Prihilny. In 1621 was built a hospital, where wounded Polish soldiers immediately returned from the Turkish campaign; here died up to two thousand people. In 1634–1640, a church was erected. In 1648, the monastery fortifications, as well as the nearby monastery of St. Magladena, were captured by the troops of Bohdan Khmelnytsky.nIn the building for some time, Markian Shashkevich, a Ukrainian poet and folklorist, lived with his relative, the hospital manager.nIn the 2000s, ecumenical services were also held in the temple.
