Monument to Grigory Nikitovich Vakulenchuk

Description

Grigory Nikitovich Vakulenchuk on the battleship was preparing an uprising, as part of a general uprising of the entire Black Sea Fleet, scheduled for autumn.nBut the unexpected happened: on June 14 of 1905, the sailors of the Potemkin raised a rebellion because of a poor-quality lunch — there were worms in the meat. An experienced underground worker, Vakulenchuk, discouraged the sailors from rebellion, knowing that it was dangerous to plot a rebellion on a single ship. Circumstances forced him to lead a rebellion.nIn the ensuing fight Vakulenchuk was mortally wounded by a senior officer Gilyarovsky. After that, the commander and seven officers were killed, the rest were disarmed and locked in cabins.n
