Monument to Ivan Horseshoe

The monument to the famous Cossack ataman Ivan Podkove is located on the square that bears his name in the very center of the city.nIvan Podkova – one of the heroes of the struggle of the Ukrainian and Moldovan peoples against the Turkish invaders, who in 1577 was proclaimed the Moldovan master. According to the legends, Horseshoe had unheard of physical strength and easily unscrewed horseshoes with his hands. In June 1578, Ivan Podkova was executed by order of the Polish Sejm in Lviv on Rynok Square.nThe monument in honor of Ivan the Horseshoe was built free in 1981 by Lviv sculptor Peter Kulik. The monument was one of the objects that were listed in the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR “On the perpetuation of memorable places associated with the history of the Zaporozhye Cossacks.”
