Designed by Matthew Cotes Watt and sculptor Richard Westmacott. The monument is located north of the city hall; opened in October 1813. This is the first major monument in the city. The composition of the monument depicts 4 sailors captured and chained to a cylindrical pedestal with bronze tablets depicting scenes of the battles in which Nelson defeated.
