Nicholai Gogol Monument in Kyiv

Description

Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol was a Ukrainian dramatist.nAlthough Gogol was considered by his contemporaries to be one of the preeminent figures of the natural school of Russian literary realism, later critics have found in his work a fundamentally romantic sensibility, with strains of surrealism and the grotesque. Gogol is mentioned several times in Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Poor Folk and Crime and Punishment and Chekhov’s The Seagull. More than 135 films have been based on Gogol’s work, the most recent being The Girl in the White Coat.n
