The temple was built under the Budyonitsa mountain on the Volyn tract on the territory of an ancient city. The first evidence of it dates back to 1292. The excavations of 1977 confirmed that it was founded in the 13th century. They admit that the church served as the family burial vault of the Galician princes.nIn 1623 the church suffered from a fire, in 1772 it was rebuilt again, in 1800 it burned again.
