Since the epidemic of the plague broke out in Odessa in late 1829, the opening of the library took place only on April 15, 1830. By this time, the collection already numbered 5 thousand books.nFrom collections of literature, which in various years were donated to the library by private individuals, the following collections were of particular value: Lev Tolstoy (more than 40,000 editions), Marazli (10,000 volumes), collections of Economics and Law, archaeology, etc. Reports of the library include Smithsonian University (Washington), universities – Paris, Prague, Peking, Harvard, the Library of the British Museum, the Parisian National Library, the Library of Congress in Washington.
