Description

The idea of creating a zoo in Odessa arose in 1889, when a drawing and a plan for the “Menagerie on the Police Street on the Cliff” was made, but it was not possible to realize this plan. The next step to the creation of the zoo was taken in 1914 – the project of its construction on the territory of the botanical garden was approved, approved by the City Duma, but the First World War, which began, and then the civil war prevented these plans.nDue delays caused by World War I and the Civil War, the actual building of the zoo on Primorsky Boulevard did not begin until 1922. In December 1927, three projects were accepted as a zoo building basis. The zoo was opened for visitors in 1938.
