One of the largest shipowners not only of our city, but of the whole country, was Peter Regir. Shipping company “Peter Regir and Son” was among the five largest companies in the Russian Empire. The remains of the house of this wealthy person are on the Italianskaya str. The entire family of the Regir family lived in the mansion built in 1900, and the management of the shipping company was located there too. After the revolution, Regir-son transferred the business and moved abroad. Peter Regir died in 1919 in Mariupol. During the years of Soviet power, a dormitory and various institutions were located in the building. The last overhaul was carried out in 1968. The mansion was left uninhabited after it was abandoned by employees of the “Donbasstalkonstruktsiya” trust department. In the summer of 2011, at the invitation of PSTU, well-known Italian patron Emilio Schenetti visited this house. He had a tour by the Italianskaya street, which also touched upon the historical links of Mariupol with his homeland. Most of all, the patron was impressed by the mansion of Peter Regir.
