Savior Transfiguration Cathedral

Description

The cathedral, as its architectural development reflected the level of development of Odessa: being a small religious building at the beginning of the 19th century, it became one of the largest cathedrals of the Russian Empire, and at the beginning of the 20th century, and one of the largest churches in Ukraine. In August 1794, a solemn consecration of the city of Odessa took place, during which the construction site of a church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was consecrated on Cathedral Square, and in 1795 the first stone was laid. This temporary church became the ancestor of the future cathedral.nThe construction of the church by the project of engineer Vonrezant was planned to be completed in 1797, but the solemn consecration of the church took place only on May 25, 1808.
