Description

The State Museum of Tolstoy is a state literary museum dedicated to the memory of the writer Leo Tolstoy. It was founded in 1911 by members of the Tolstoy Society. Since 1920, the museum has been housed in a former mansion. After the death of Tolstoy on November 7, 1910, the question arose of preserving his legacy. A year later, members of the Tolstoy Society, at the initiative of Vladimir Bonch-Bruevich, organized an exhibition, the exhibits of which formed the future literary exposition of the museum.
