Description

The bank building is one of the buildings that has been perfectly preserved to our time and has been carrying its intended function for more than 100 years. Mariupol State Bank was established in 1867, but after a few years it was closed. In 1897 by order of the Mariupol City Council in St. Petersburg, a draft of a representative two-story building for the Mariupol branch of the State Bank was drawn up. In 1905, the Mariupol State Bank moved to a new building, made in the classical architectural traditions, which we see today. This bank gave financial support for the construction of metallurgical plants Nikopol and Providence, the construction of private and public buildings, agricultural and cultural facilities not only in the city, but also in the entire Mariupol district. It was this branch of the bank that provided payments for the construction of housing, industrial and social facilities of the city in the 1950-1980s. By the end of the 1960s, tribunes for representatives of the city government were established at its walls during demonstrations. So, this building has played a central role in Mariupol history.
