According to archival data, the church appeared no earlier than the middle of the XIV century. Studies have revealed under the layers of plaster Gothic, the so-called cross laying, typical for the XIV-XV centuries. For some time the church belonged to the Catholic order of Dominican monks, then to the Armenian Uniates.nThe Church of St. John the Baptist now houses the Museum of Ancient Monuments of Lviv. The decision to create was made on the basis of archaeological research, as a result of which it was revealed that a Slavic settlement existed at this place long before the founding of Lviv.
