Description

The ruins of the Synagogue, among other architectural witnesses of history, are perhaps the most ancient. The approximate date of construction of this building is 1882. According to some historical information, the house and the area, where the Synagogue was located, belonged to the city merchant Anton Chabanenko. During the years of Soviet power, when all religious buildings of the city, as well as the entire country, were destroyed under the new policy, the building of the Synagogue survived, however, completed its activities. At first it was allocated for the placement of medical school, then – correspondence school. Only in the late twentieth century, namely in the 1980s, it was decided to create an art gallery on the basis of the historical building, but this idea was not realized, because in winter after the anomalously heavy snowfall, the roof of the building was completely destroyed. After that, once an outstanding building turned into ruins. However, now they are living witnesses of the ancient history of our city.
