After the death of the Duke of Wellington in 1852, they decided to erect a monument in Liverpool in honor of his victories. Brass plaque in the southern part of the pedestal – with a relief image of the end of the Battle of Waterloo, other victorious battles of the Duke are depicted on the reliefs of the eastern and western parts of the column.
