Description

The Abanotubani district is the place where the future capital of Georgia once originated – and the ancient history of the city is literally in every brick and stone of cobblestone pavements. From the Middle Ages to the present day, saunas built in the Persian tradition, with domed roofs, have been preserved. During the heyday of the Silk Road (one of its branches passed through the city), an entire block grew up under the fortress, which is still called Abanotubani. In those days, there were about 65 bath houses. The main occupation here is to lie in hot mineral water in special bathtubs, if we talk about separate rooms, or in pools in the case of public baths.
