In 2000, the western house with a spire was painted in white, and the eastern one remained a natural brick color. They crowned Kuindzhi Street and are included in the complex of buildings of the Theater Ring, which frame Theater Square. Houses with spiers are vivid examples of the so-called Stalin Empire style – a style in architecture that is notable for its grandeur, a variety of sculptural decorative elements and stucco. The houses were built in 1953 by the project of the famous Kiev architect L. Yanovitsky. However, their construction was the result of the endurance and considerable efforts of the city architect Alexander Veselov. Indeed, at that time in the post-war dilapidated city people were not concerned about the external beauty and design of buildings.
