Church of St. Catherine

St. Catherine’s Church is the largest Lutheran church in Frankfurt am Main, built in 1681 in honor of the early Christian saint and martyr Catherine of Alexandria. The church is located in the city center on one of the most famous squares “Guardhouse”. The construction of the church was begun in 1678 and completed in 1681. The church was built in the Baroque style, 54 meters high. The church was destroyed by the brutal bombing of the city in 1944 by Allied forces during World War II. The restoration of the church took place between 1950 and 1954.
