Description

Europa Center is a complex of buildings with a memorable high-rise building on the Breitscheidplatz square. At the place where the Europa Center is now located, in 1916, the Romanesky Cafe opened, which became a legendary meeting place for writers, artists and theater workers. During the bombing of the Second World War, in November 1943, the building was destroyed. For several decades, the land plot was not used, the place was considered a “shameful spot on the business card of Berlin.” In the 1960s, along with the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, it became a symbol of West Berlin. It is under the protection of the state as a historical monument. On the roof of a high-rise building, the Mercedes logo is clearly visible from all sides. The construction weighs 10 tons, the external diameter is 10 meters, it takes about two turns around its axis per minute and glows at night.
