Description

The Frederick Mares Museum is a sculpture museum in Barcelona. Located in the territory of the old Royal Palace of the Counts of Barcelona in the territory of the Gothic Quarter.nThe museum was created thanks to the Catalan sculptor and collector Frederick Mares, who donated his collection of sculptures in 1946, which included a huge number of exhibits from the pre-Roman period to the XIX century, to city authorities.nThe museum occupies two floors: on the first are exhibits from Iberian times until the beginning of the XV century and a large collection of crosses in the Gothic style and crucifixes, on the second – sculptures and paintings created in the XV — XIX centuries and mainly on religious themes. The museum also has a department called the “Sentimental Museum”, which is a collection of various objects of Catalan life of the 15th-20th centuries located on two floors. The memorial library of the museum presents the work of Mares himself, who were also donated by him to the city.
