Description

“German Cathedral” is in the narrow sense the name of the dome tower built in 1780-1785 above the German Church, which, incidentally, never performed sacred functions, but in the broad sense the name of the entire architectural complex of the German Church and the dome tower.nThe German Baroque church was built in 1701–1708 according to the design of Martin Grünberg at the Swiss cemetery of the Lutheran community of Berlin Friedrichstadt.nThe Piazza del Popolo square in Rome with twin churches decorated with domes served as a model for Berlin Square.nDestroyed by fire in 1943, the German Cathedral was rebuilt in 1982-1996. As a result of the transaction, the building became the property of the state. Since 2002, the building has opened an exhibition of the German Bundestag, which is dedicated to the history of parliamentary democracy in Germany.
