Description

Gran Via is the street of Madrid, unofficially considered the main street of the capital of Spain. The avenue was laid on April 5, 1910, by King Alfonso XIII, who, during the ceremony, using a pickaxe, hollowed out the first stone from the priest’s house at the Church of San Jose. This act marked the beginning of the demolition of more than 300 buildings necessary for laying the street.nOn April 5, 2010, the grandson of Alfonso XIII, King of Spain Juan Carlos I, took part in a special ceremony on Gran Via, in honor of her centenary. On the eve of this day, a special bronze street model was opened on Gran Via, marking its 100th anniversary.
