Since 1972, are under state protection as a monument of architecture. The complex of courtyards opposite Khakskaya Square opened on September 23, 1906. The owners and the architect wanted to set an example of a modern, more healthy way of living and working with the example of the Khaksky Yards. The residential yards were located far from the street noise inside the residential block and, if possible, in such a way as to obtain sunlight and oxygen from the nearby green spaces at the old Jewish cemetery and the Evangelical cemetery at the church of St. Sophia. In 1951, shortly after the formation of the German Democratic Republic, the Hack courtyards were nationalized and in 1977 placed under state protection. Restored Hack courtyards became the most expensive real estate in Berlin and became one of the attractions of the German capital.
