Monument to de Ribas

Jose de Ribas is a Spanish nobleman who moved to Russia and became a successful warlord, and later the first mayor of Odessa. It was thanks to de Ribas’s diligence and organizational skills that in a fairly short period one of the largest seaports and trade hubs, the city of Odessa, grew on the Black Sea coast.nnMonument to de Ribas is located at the beginning of the eponymous Deribasovskaya street. There is also a monument to de Ribas in the courtyard of the Museum of Local Lore and a sculpture as part of the monument to Catherine II.
