“Museum Island” (germ. Museumsinsel) is the name given to the northern tip of the Spreeinsel island on the Spree River in Berlin, where the whole constellation of famous Berlin museums is located. The museum island is the center of attraction for tourists and art lovers from around the world. Since 1999, a unique architectural and cultural ensemble has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.nIn 1797, King Friedrich Wilhelm II supported the proposal of the archaeologist and professor of art history Alois Hirt to create a museum to house the works of art of antiquity and modern times. In 1810, by his highest decree, King Frederick William III ordered that a “public collection of carefully selected works of art” be laid.nArchaeological collections and art of the XIX century are mainly located in the buildings on the Museum Island. After the unification of Germany began the unification of the meetings that were previously divided between the West and the East.
