Description

Alexander Nevsky Novo-Tikhvin Monastery is a female Orthodox monastery in Yekaterinburg, one of the largest in Russia. The main temple – Alexander Nevsky Cathedral – is a monument of architecture of late classicism. The monastery dates back to the end of the 18th century, when an almshouse at the cemetery of the Assumption Church began to exist. In 1809, the women’s community serving in the almshouse was transformed into a hostel convent. In 1922, the monastery was closed by Soviet authorities, in 1994 it was revived. The monastery has two courtyards – in Yekaterinburg and in the village of Merkushino.
