Odessa Philharmonic Theater

Philharmonic is located in the historic center of Odessa. Built in 1899, the building was originally intended for holding exchange trading, and therefore it housed the New Merchant Exchange, which was erected in exchange for the Old Exchange, on Primorsky Boulevard. This need was caused by an increase in grain exports through the city’s port, the appearance of a railroad in it and, accordingly, an increase in trade transactions. In Soviet times, when planned trade replaced the exchange, the building changed its purpose: for many years various public-state organizations were located here, plenary meetings were held, and literary evenings were organized. And since 1946, when the building of the exchange occupied the Odessa Conservatory.n
