Description

The Church was built in 1132–1136 by the princes Mstislav and Yaropolk, the sons of Prince Vladimir Monomakh. The church is mentioned in the “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign”. In 1935, destroyed by the Bolsheviks. In 1998, a new temple was built at the historic site. nIn 1240 the temple was almost destroyed during the invasion of the Mongols. By 1474, it was restored and consecrated festively, however, already in 1482, it was again badly damaged during the raid of the Crimean Khan Mengli Giray to Kyiv. In 1613-1614, after the fire of 1611, the church was reconstructed by Italian architect Sebastiano Braque.
