Description

The pharmacy museum in Kiev is a museum which exposition is dedicated to the history of the development of Ukrainian pharmaceuticals. In 1728 a German, Johann Geater, opened the first private pharmacy in Kiev in Podol, not far from Andrew’s Descent, a patent for which he received by decree of Emperor Peter II dated July 28, 1728. After the Podolsk fire in 1811, the pharmacy building was rebuilt in the forms of classicism by the architect Melensky. The pharmacy existed for about 110 years, until 1835, shortly after the house was sold. In 1983, restoration and creation of a pharmacy museum, which was opened in 1986, began in this building.nThe interior of the pharmacy of the XVIII — XIX centuries was recreated on the first floor of the museum. Pharmaceutical utensils, furniture, dental and surgical instruments, etc. are presented here. In the basement there are several installations: a witch’s house, a herbal monk’s cell, an alchemist’s laboratory
