Description

A residential district in Kyiv.nUntil now, there is a perception that the earliest settlements on the territory of Kiev, which date from the 1st century of our era, were located in the gorge. The grounds for this gave Roman coins found on this site. However, despite numerous excavations, no remains of dwellings were found there. The first buildings appeared after 1150.nThe inhabitants of the tract Potters Kozhemyaka were artisans. Potters began to settle first in this area, a little later blacksmiths, stone cutters, kozhemyak, furriers began to settle. By the beginning of the XVI century in Kiev, there were many craft shops, most of which are located on Podol, and in particular, in the tract. In the same place, near the workshops, the masters themselves settled. Streets were called by profession. Part of the masters – carpenters, stone-cutters – were busy at this time in the work of restoring the Kiev castle, which was located on the Zamkova mountain, above the tract.n
