Description

Zedazensky monastery – a monastery in Georgia, emptied in the XVII century.nIt was founded in the VI century by John, one of the 13 Assyrian fathers, on the site of the former temple of the idol Zaden; empty in the XVII century after the ruin of Georgia by Shah Abbas. In the temple, where John is buried, there is a reservoir where, according to legend, water only happens on May 7, when many pilgrims flock to the feast. From the Zedazen monastery one can clearly see another, located lower on the neighboring spur of the Saguram ridge, the Jvari monastery, mentioned in the poem “Mtsyri” by Lermontov.
