Five destinations for ecotourism in Colombia

Despite the request of hoteliers, Tayrona will close from June 1

From 1 to 15 June will be a new period of closure of Tayrona Park and its beach areas. Although this rest day is scheduled within the framework of the Respira Tayrona campaign, there was expectation on the part of the tourism sector, since a request had been submitted to leave the reserve open at this time and thus contribute to the reactivation of tourism that recently resumed with the relaxation of restrictive measures in Santa Marta.(Read also: More than 1,500 Barí indians join the protests in Cúcuta)

From tomorrow first until next June 15, as it is done every year, within the framework of the campaign # RespiraTayrona and in compliance with the prior consultation with the four indigenous peoples of the Sierra, Tayrona National Natural Park will be temporarily closed”reported the entity.

It should be noted that this closure is part of the agreements concluded with the indigenous peoples and the authorities. During this period, the so-called elder brothers make payments, sacred rituals of purification and activities of preservation of these protected areas.(Also: Alleged police murderers sent to prison in Santa Marta)

Precisely because they are dates established by the indigenous people, based on their beliefs and special times of the year, it would not have been possible to evaluate the proposal raised punctually by the hoteliers.

For this guild, the cessation of activity of this tourist attraction would mean slowing, once again, the flow of tourists to the capital of Magdalena.

“The closure will take place during two bank holidays in June, which, although an overflowing number of visitors is not expected, would be like putting another barrier to the reactivation of this area of the city,” said Omar García, executive president of Cotelco Magdalena.
