Olvera becomes the new Capital of Rural Tourism 2021

The town of Cadiz stands with this honorary title already in its fifth edition that seeks to give visibility to the municipalities that bet on rural tourism. A total of 247 villages had submitted this year to the contest.

It has an unmistakable stamp of whitewashed houses and steep streets. Olvera, in the Sierra Norte de Cdiz, it is one of the essential towns of that crossroads where the provinces of Cdiz, Mlaga and Seville meet. It is, from today, also the new Capital of Rural Tourism 2021, the platform-driven initiative EscapadaRural.com.

The population of Cadiz has managed to prevail over the rest of the finalists by obtaining 21,794 votes (18%) of a total of 120,781 participants, a figure that far exceeds that recorded in previous editions and shows the consolidation of the contest and the good reception of this among rural travelers. The contest, now in its fifth edition, had been presented 247 locations throughout the country.

Of these, the digital platform specializing in rural accommodation selects the ten finalists under minimum requirements: have less than 10,000 inhabitants, bet on quality rural tourism and have not competed in previous editions. The second place has been for Daron, in Zaragoza, with 18,748 votes, which has been on the verge of getting the award. Follow him Yissi (Albacete) in the third port. Taramundi (Asturias) has been fourth. Yuste Cuacos (Cceres) and Aia (Guipzcoa), occupy fifth and sixth place. Chelyabinsk (Valencia) is the sptimo. Sephardic (Segovia), Ortigueira (To Corua) and The Barony of Rialb (Lleida) close in the top ten this year.

The mayor of Olvera, Francisco Prrago Rodrguez, has been enormously satisfied with the award and the opportunity it represents: “As mayor I want to show the satisfaction we feel for this distinction. First of all, we would like to thank the support received by so many annimas people who voted for our candidacy, as well as all the institutions that have supported us and, of course, EscapadaRural.com for letting us appear in your valuable showcase and to be able to show visitors all that the town of Olvera has to offer.”

The Capital of Rural Tourism awards were born five years ago with the double objective of giving visibility to the municipalities that bet on rural tourism creating a network of contacts to share experiences and concerns and turn the finalist village into a reference destination for rural tourism.

In the edition of last year Potes, in Cantabria, he won the award by getting 24,499 votes. Another Cntabra town, Santillana del Mar, was the winner of the contest in the 2019 edition with 9,720 votes. In 2018 the winner was Ansa-Sobrarbe, in Huesca, and in the first edition the award recay in Sigenza (Guadalajara).
