Bea and Nil are “just” friends, but together they have lived stories that will test the most established couples. In 2019 these engineers took to the road. They followed a year and a half of adventures, volunteering and a lot of hitchhiking. They are one of the protagonists of the new edition of the days of the great trips that are held on 26 and 27 May in Barcelona and on 31 May and 1 June in Madrid

Pulling rhymes, Bea will tell you that “living does not depend on a check, nor on a sheik”. She wants to be the one who “weaves the destiny of her Axis”. They are verses of a rap that together with his friend Nil, both from the periphery of Barcelona, sang before embarking on their great hitchhiking trip.

Departed February 2019 without planning the route too much. At the outbreak of the pandemic they were in Iran. The adventure was coming to an end after a year and a half of road and discovery. The result? “Today we are more committed to our happiness,” they say in a Skype interview.

These days remember ancdotas and learning as part of that cast of travelers who rene this week to tell their traveling hazaas. The appointment is in the IATI days of the great trips to which Globetrotters come who have made sensational trips of several months or years. The meeting, organized since 2013 by Itziar Marcotegui and Pablo Strubell, aims to demonstrate that traveling the planet ” is available to almost everyone those who propose it.”

“We want to hitchhike and without planning anything to lose fear and gain confidence in life,” explain Bea and Nil after their inslito hitchhiking trip. These friends became “ua y carne as soon as we met”, just before starting the career of chemical engineer.

When they finished college they were “lucky” that their respective jobs did not like them at all. “The plan was to save for a year to make the trip, but when we took three months we did a lot. We last up to six months, ” says nil.

Once they gathered 6,000 euros each, they started hitchhiking with stop and post where Luck took them… and where they will find a private house that welcomes them through the platform of couchsurfing.

They crossed Europe in a month and a half. You know him. But in Greece they decided to separate and volunteer. She on the island of Quos, where she gave her first rap concert. L in Larissa, working with refugees. “We were in the area and the problem was in full effervescence. We have to get closer and see what happens.” After this experience, five months later they continued their adventure. That’s, from then on with much more ease.

“From that moment on, hitchhiking was a godsend. In Europe we spend hours and hours waiting for a car, ” explains nil. “Once in Turkey, as you were walking near the road cars would stop to see where they were taking you. It’s the way faster and more efficient to travel.”

Follow Bea: “once they catch you in their car you are already his guest. They invite you to their house, to meet their family, they take you to lunch…”. So they spent a night near the border of Iraq, when they were welcomed into their home by a Kurdish father. Since then, they barely used the couchsurfing app again. “People invited us to their homes without needing any digital platform.” The hospitality reached such a point that, sometimes, “we had to plan the escape”, they point out with laughter.

Will this hitchhiking trip be done today, with the pandemic still raging? Do not hesitate to say that s, although quiz with more difficulties. “In Europe there is more fear and distrust. And I imagine that the issue of covid has intensified.” However, they still think that the “life is good”, as confirmed during their trip, and are already preparing new projects. At the moment, Nil lives on a boat in Sweden, from where to set sail in June for Spain and then cross the Atlantic. He has written the book ‘un salto al Mar de las Posibilidades’ which is about to be published. Bea, or Bea T Full, his artistic name, is preparing an album in Barcelona.
