The Boqueria Market is a city market in Barcelona, ​​in the El Raval sub-district. The market building covers an area of ​​2,583 m² and is constructed of glass and steel, and is also decorated with mosaics. The first mentions of the market date back to 1217, when, near the former city gates, Boqueria set tables for the sale of meat. In 1826, the market was officially recognized by the authorities. March 19, 1840 construction began under the guidance of the architect Mas Vila. The market was opened in the same year, however, some improvements were carried out until 1846. The official opening took place in 1853. In 1911, a new fish market was opened, and in 1914, the market acquired a new metal roof, which still covers Boqueria.
