Description

The Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem is a Baroque church located in Barcelona. The side facade opens directly onto the Rambla.nIn place of the old church, built in 1553 and destroyed in 1671, in 1681 began the construction of a new church designed by the architect Joseph Juli. Construction was completed by 1732. The sculptural decoration of the church was performed by Francesc Santacruz y Artigues and his pupil Andreu Sala. The church originally belonged to the Jesuit Order (which explains the presence of sculptural images of key figures of the order), but after the Jesuits were expelled from Spain in 1767, it was transferred to other congregations.nThe interior of the church was completely replaced in 1855.
